RELEASES

WHAT IS A ‘RELEASE”?

When a player wishes to play in a centre other than his/her current Box Lacrosse association he/she must apply to be released in order to sign and play with another association.

HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR A RELEASE?

  • The Player must first be registered (including payment) with Thunder Lacrosse.
  • The Player, a Parent or Guardian must complete the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA)  Release Request Form.  This form can be downloaded from our website - in our Downloads tab.
  • Complete Section 1.
  • Email the completed form to the Thunder Lacrosse President - Thunder.Lacrosse.President@gmail.com

NEXT STEPS:

Thunder Lacrosse will respond within 72 hours to acknowledge receipt of the request.

Thunder Lacrosse has 2 Options:

1.  Approve the Release and provide the applicant with the approved release form.

2.  Deny the release.

If not approved:

The player can either request a refund, or continue to play with his/her current association and try to resolve the differences that led to the request for a release.

You can appeal your release to the Zone 6 Release Committee (there is an appeal fee of $50 payable to zone 6).  The player and a Thunder Lacrosse representative must attend this meeting.

If the request is again denied by the Zone, the appeal can be taken to the OLA Appeals Committee (there is a fee of $100 payable to the OLA for this).  The player must attend this meeting. The Zone and Thunder Lacrosse representatives may attend (optional).

APPROVED RELEASES:

If at any level of these proceedings, the release is granted (whether conditional or unconditional), the player must register with their next closest centre as per OLA boundaries.  He/she will then present the signed two-page form to the registrar of his new association, in order that it can be attached to the new registration form as proof of release. A refund of Thunder Lacrosse registration fees will be issued (less a $25 administrative fee).
