Important Information for House League Lacrosse

  • Season:  April 24-June 24 (Except Peanut runs May 15- June 24).
  • One day a week (skills followed by game)
  • Recreational introduction to the sport of lacrosse.
  • Emphasis on learning the sport in a positive and fun atmosphere.
  • The House League program is conducted in the spirit of cooperative competition.
  • This program allows players to practice and play against players of their age and skill level from the ages of 2 to 14.
  • Plays out of Markham Village & Stouffville Arena
  • Most hockey equipment can be used for lacrosse. The only lacrosse specific equipment that is required is the stick & rib guards.

***NEW THIS YEAR***

  • Novice and below: Contact consists of equal pressure, body-positioning, place and push only.

 

The Peanut Division (or soft lax)

  • AGE: Designed for children born in 2013/2014.
  • WHEN: 2017 dates MONDAY
  • DESCRIPTION: There is NO BODY CONTACT in the Peanut Division. It is a great introduction to group sports, focusing on lacrosse skills and rules. Every session will have a warm up, fun games, activities and one or two drills. Each week the children will learn one new skill or rule with emphasis on "Safe Smart Play". At the end of the season each child will receive a certificate outlining all the new skills/rules they learned throughout the season, as well as a trophy at our annual "DAY OF CHAMPIONS".
  • EQUIPMENT: All participants require a helmet, gloves, running shoes & lacrosse stick.

 

The Paperweight Division

  • AGE: Designed for children born in 2011/2012.
  • WHEN: 2017 Dates WEDNESDAY
  • DESCRIPTION: A great group sport, focusing on lacrosse skills and rules. The first two weeks are spent learning skills and rules with emphasis on "Safe Smart Play". Following that each week be 1.25 hours long… starting with 30 minutes of fun drills followed by a game. The season ends with a final game at our annual "DAY OF CHAMPIONS".
  • GAME FORMAT:
    • 4on4, no goalie (obstacle in each net). 8-10 players per team.
    • Players may only be in possession of the ball for a maximum of four (4) seconds.
    • Periods - two 15-minute halves
    • Three-minute line change buzzer.
    • Played with TYKE, line matching with paperweight.
    • Contact consists of equal pressure, body-positioning, place and push.
  • EQUIPMENT: All participants require full lacrosse equipment including mouth guard.
  • SPECIAL: There will also be a tournament team that all house league players are welcome to try out for. This team will participate in extra practices and 1 away tournaments in the month of July.

 

The Tyke Division

  • AGE: Designed for children born in 2009/2010.
  • WHEN: 2017 Dates WEDNESDAY
  • DESCRIPTION: A great group sport, focusing on lacrosse skills and rules. The first two weeks are spent learning skills and rules with emphasis on "Safe Smart Play". Following that each week be 1.25 hours long… starting with 30 minutes of fun drills followed by a game. The season ends with a final game at our annual "DAY OF CHAMPIONS".
  • GAME FORMAT:

    • Players may only be in possession of the ball for a maximum of four (4) seconds.

The Novice Division

  • AGE: Designed for children born in 2007/2008.
  • WHEN: 2017 Dates MONDAY
  • DESCRIPTION: A great group sport, focusing on lacrosse skills and rules. The first two weeks are spent learning skills and rules with emphasis on "Safe Smart Play". Following that each week be 1.5 hours long… starting with 40 minutes of fun drills followed by a game. The season ends with a final game at our annual "DAY OF CHAMPIONS".
  • GAME FORMAT:
    • 4on4, plus a goalie. 8-10 players per team.
    • Players may only be in possession of the ball for a maximum of four (4) seconds.
    • Players cannot carry the ball over center; the ball must be passed beyond center.
    • Periods: three-period game (12-minute periods).
    • Two-minute line change buzzer.
    • Contact consists of equal pressure, body-positioning, place and push.
  • EQUIPMENT: All participants require full lacrosse equipment including mouth guard.

The Peewee Division

  • AGE: Designed for children born in 2005/2006.
  • WHEN: 2017 Dates MONDAY
  • DESCRIPTION: A great group sport, focusing on lacrosse skills and rules. The first two weeks are spent learning skills and rules with emphasis on "Safe Smart Play". Following that each week be 1.5 hours long… starting with 40 minutes of drills followed by a game. The season ends with a final game at our annual "DAY OF CHAMPIONS".
  • EQUIPMENT: All participants require full lacrosse equipment including mouth guard.

The Bantam Division

  • AGE: Designed for children born in 2003/2004.
  • WHEN: 2017 Dates MONDAY
  • DESCRIPTION: A great group sport, focusing on lacrosse skills and rules. The first two weeks are spent learning skills and rules with emphasis on "Safe Smart Play". Following that each week be 1.5 hours long… starting with 40 minutes of drills followed by a game. The season ends with a final game at our annual "DAY OF CHAMPIONS".
  • EQUIPMENT: All participants require full lacrosse equipment including mouth guard.

Intermediate divisions - Offering Rep only.
